V60 Pour Over

A clean, bright pour-over at the classic 1:16 ratio.

V60 Pour Over coffee recipe
  • Ratio: 1:16 coffee to water
  • Method: V60 / cone dripper
  • Brew time: 3–4 minutes
  • Difficulty: Intermediate

Ingredients

Amounts for 1 serving.

  • Coffee Beans: 18 g
  • Hot Water: 288 ml

Instructions

  1. Boil water and rinse the paper filter in the dripper to remove papery taste and warm everything; discard the rinse water.
  2. Add 18 g of medium-ground coffee and level the bed with a gentle shake.
  3. Bloom: pour about 36 g of water to wet all the grounds, swirl gently, and wait 30–45 seconds.
  4. Pour the remaining water (to about 288 g total) in slow spirals from the center outward, in two or three even pours.
  5. Let it drain fully. The whole brew should finish in roughly 3 to 3.5 minutes, leaving a flat bed of grounds.

Reading the result

A flat, even bed of spent grounds means your pours were balanced. Sour or thin? Grind finer or pour more slowly. Bitter or hollow? Grind coarser. For the full technique, see the pour-over guide — this recipe is the 1:16 version to start from.
